Open nudity is very natural. The public is wrong for discouraging it or being ashamed. As for an erection in public, I don't even feel naked unless my cock is hard. As a nudist I am naked almost all the time at home and in public.

All the above are completely acceptable in a gay or nudists setting. Pride marches however are a situation where we are very visible to the straight public. We speak of wanting to be accepeted in society, this will only be accompilshed as strights see us as non-threating and "like them" in most ways accept our sexual preference. While i am a gay man and an ardent nudist i would prefer that nudity didnt take place at pride events where the media show that as if it were the sum total of what gblt are all about.

I believe nudity should be permitted at these types of events for both men and women.

I feel that people should have the right to cover or display as much as they want. People's liberty to choose should not be limited. Those who might feel offended should not look or attend these events. However, as strong as I feel about being naked in public, there should not be any fondling, grabbing, or any sexually explicit conduct. That should not be done in public.

I thought it was very important to show tha various degrees of "exposure" and how people feel toward them. I hope that one day people, regardless of their sexual orientation, may have the right to march as naked or as covered as they want in public. Thank you for this poll.

Gay and Lesbian community members are held by the *same* laws that straight men and women are, and should dress accordingly. If Gay and/or Lesbian community members wish to have the same rights as allowed to straight people, it would then be logical and correct that we be held by the same rules to accomodate all orientations at any given time.

I have no objections to full nudity in an enclosed event open only to adults who choose to enter. Public venues and parades where uninterested parties may be present are not appropriate places to be nude. At least in my part of the country, public nudity hinders all efforts at gay acceptance by the general public.

I am a gay man, I love and go to nude gatherings and beaches, but walking on a public street is inappropriate to me. We may have had and still standards that have confined us, but demanding our rights or freedom at the expense of offending someone else's sense of standards does not add up. A naked society would be wonderful, I wish for it, but in our neighborhoods and city streets is not where it is going to happen, not when we have other Americans who are offended. Why? Is a good question, but they are, and a society of respect involves compromise.

Media coverage of gay pride marches typically show the extremes of these marches, showing edited out nudity, "lewd" acts and drag queens. This does not accurately represent the majority of gay males and allows stereotypes such as overt sexuality and transvestism to continue to exist. Coverage of gays as normal people is getting less and less "cutting edge" for the media as of late.

More examples, say two each question, one of what can be considered an unattractive gay male and another that can be considered an attractive gay male.

I think everything here is acceptable with the exception of someone rubbing their genetalia on another person (consensual or otherwise).

I realize that sometimes marching naked in a public demonstration may cause an erection. Some can't help it due to a number of factors, like age, maturity, sexual experience, nudity experience, etc. I think this is okay. I do, however, draw the line at public sexual activity. I have never had any hang ups about nudity or sex, but I also recognize that I am in the minority. So, although I feel most of the things depicted in this poll or acceptable, I know that many in the religious right would condemn this sort of thing and use it as proof that gay people, especially men, are essentially perverts. I think it depends a great deal on where the march is being conducted and for what purpose.

Have not attended a Pride festival in a few years. Always enjoyed seeing naked people (men and women) ... I think nudity is great -would love to see more naked people and less shame attached to our bodies and nudity. Thanks for the poll.

I'm a gay man and not a prude. But I'm curious what nudity has to do with "Gay Pride". I don't have any problem with public nudity but why not do it in events where the gay community isn't trying to show the world that we are people just like them - doctors, lawyers, candlestick makers. Hand holding would barely be acceptable by most straight people, why slap them in the face and fulfill every misconception they have.

I am from Holland. I don't see what walking (almost)naked in the street tells about gay pride. In my humble opinion it only shows the frustration of certain gays that still believe that being gay only covers the sexual part of our being human.

I so ne difference between pride nudity and the nudity exibited during the sexual revolution of the 60s. I think many of those who object to Gay nudity have a problem with homosexuality not nudity. Some people are just so afraid vie their religion that they are afraid to let people think for themselves, this is also the element behind the anti abortion debate. I see public nudity like public drinking. Normaly drinking in public is illegal eccept at certain public events like baseball games and festivals, likewise public nudity is illegal or discuraged eccept for certain pulic events like pride festivals. IN both cases the public is aware that the drinking or nudity is a part of the event and those who object should just stay away from such events.

Think about families bringing children; keep the sexual stuff out and just show the nudity so we all can see the wonderful variety of human physiques.

For some reason, folks seeem to have a problem with gay nudity. However, they should remember their own opportunities when they were a participant at a straight nudist colony or beach. Just because we're gay shouldn't mean that we have to cover up. Naturists come in all colors, including gay, straight and otherwise.

Found it interesting. Albeit quite revealing, the most exciting thing was to find that there were so many people that opted to expose themselves and practice open naturalism. Also gave my naturist tendencies some great ideas for my own exhibition as you will! The painted body, although possibly quite irritating with the wrong kind of paints, was probably the most unique.

I think nudity in Pride parades only serves to give the straight community reason to point their fingers in disgust.

I think that marching nude as a symbol of gay pride is a wonderful and positive thing to do. The penis is a very attractive part of the human anatomy. It can look particularly attractive in a state of erection and with the enhancement of a decoration such as a cock ring. I would hope that you gain a more general acceptance of the right to march and show yourselves in public.

Those who feel that nudity at pride events undermine "the cause" probably don't know what the cause really is! It is about freedom and acceptance for all, of our sexuality and our bodies. I am reminded of those who don't approve of drag or leather at pride events, because they want the straight world to think we are "normal." As long as ANYONE (gay or straight) must act "normal", there is no freedom.

Hi Jim, I would have put "with an erection" and "with overt suggestions of sexual activity" in two separate categories. I think the first is acceptable, since it's a natural and often uncontrollable occurrence (at least for me), but personally I think the latter is going a bit too far.

Look, I know a lot of people feel that nudity should be forbidden in Gay Pride celebrations becuase these should be "family" affairs and we don't want to alienate our more family-oriented, conservative supporters. These people figure the more we can show the rest of the world that we're just like them, we'll be accepted. Maybe. But the older I get the more I realize that being gay goes much further than where I put my dick during sex. I think being gay being celebrating myself as a man as completely as I can...and so that means celebrating my naked body--my cock, my balls, my ass--and reveling in the pleasure they give me. I think it woudl be GREAT to see (and be with) a bunch of guys who were open enough to walking down the parade route nude, letting their cocks get hard, celebrating their erotic natures, flaunting their masculinity--and afterwards, dancing naked, with hardons outside. Nudity for the sake of upsetting others is not acceptable to me even though I am a TNT member. Many people at pride did not want to see naked or the equivalent people and should not be forced against their will to do so. No wonder the police are hasseling us at even our own private parties. You don't rub people's noses in it and expect to escape unscathed. People are willing to let people to do their own thing as long as you don't force them against their will to have to acknowledge or experience it. It is our thing, then keep it OUR thing and confined to ourselvees and others who also enjoy it and we are sure will not be offended by it.

Pride is meant for all gay people. Children may not be ready for such displays.

Nudity anywhere is fine by me. I'm not into the sexual stuff in public, however. All the cover up stuff for the people who are too chicken shit or embarrassed to be naked is unacceptable. Of course I'm also a naturist who only wears clothes when I absolutely have to do so, which isn't often.

I Stopped attending the parade and the festivities after witnessing the nudity two years ago. I am embarrassed that we as gay people need to do this shock thing. "They Do Not represent me"!

I don't see anything wrong with marching totally nude, with or without a hard-on, whether shaved or not, and whether stroking it or not. In my opion, if someone is going to be offended, then they really shouldn't be there to begin with. Now as far as having sex in public, that should be done a little more descreetly, where the general public cannot view it unless they are of legal age and consent. Then, if they are and want to join in, there shouldn't be anything wrong with it.

As far as I am concerned, there should be no restrictions on public nudity anyplace. The body is a sacred gift to be celebrated and enjoyed, not to be concealed and hidden--and no part of the body is more beautiful or sacred than the genitals. I also think that at gay festivals, the erotic potential of the body should be fully celebrated, and public sex is part of that potential and sheer fun.

I would love to attend the Toronto Pride parade sometime. I was in SF for their parade again this year. Had a terrific time. There was a lot of nudity both in the parade and at the festival. I walked naked with the Fairies, strolled through the festival naked, and danced naked with some very nice men.

I find it wonderful, that there are some brave guys, who dare to show how beautiful the naked male body is.

Nudity is not the issue, but being lude is. It is fine to be naked, but being arroused or performing a sexual act in not acceptable.

As much as I like to see nude men, cocks, asses,etc. I do not believe a Gay Pride Parade is the right place for such overt nudist activity because there are too many straights, children,etc. watching the parade and it just gives gays a bad reputation. At Madi Gras in New Orleans in the gay section of town it may be okay, but not in a public parade. This would never be allowed in the parade in New York City. Go Go dancers with thongs and revealing g-strings is about as nude as men can get.

Clothing/costumes such as you describe are more appropriate during events such as the Folsom Street Festival, where the focus of the festival seems to be sexuality (and some areas of Mardi Gras). Pride should allow us to feel good about ourselves, partners, and lives and at the same time, allow us to showcase our accomplishments and lives to those that believe they know no gay people, or don't want to know gay people. In short, I expect people to behave at Pride so that I would feel comfortable bringing my family to the event. In every celebration I have attended, I feel proud of all the people there, regardless of their attire. It is always nice to see people from all walks of life, thin, large, tall, professional, couples, singles, outrageous, conservative, ... But I must say, the people that are living the lives they want and succeeding regardless of the obstacles around them are the ones that set the examples, not those who are brave enough to wear the least clothing. I think it is a wonderful expression of who we are.

I believe all nudity is totally acceptable in any situation as we are only a product of centuries of religious and societal brainwashing. We are, after all, animals and should act accordingly. Clothing started as an adornment and in some places was simply to keep warm. Nudity and sexuality do not always go hand in hand. People are only shocked by nudity because it is not an everyday occurance in the society they live in. Maybe it's just me, but I don't want to give the Radical Right any more ammunition than they already have. Public nudity gives them, and others of their ilk, more fodder for the argument that Queers should be shot, and our rights trampled. I personally think foisting nudity on an unappreciate audience is just as wrong as it is for the RR to foist their beliefs on Queer people. Nudity within a sheltered environment (e.g., isolated beaches, notices to the public that they will encounter nudity beyond this point, in the privacy of enclosed areas) is perfectly acceptable.

I think that nudity at a Pride parade is not acceptable. Public nudity would not be accepted at other public events, so why accept nudity at Pride events. We want the general public to accept our Pride events, so I am having a difficult time trying to understand the purpose of public nudity at Pride events. As a gay man I would be concerned that people that may want to take minors or juveniles to a pride event, would decline to do so because of the public nudity. I do support nudity in private locations; and wish that there were more places for accepted nudity such as at "Hippie Hollow" in Austin, Texas.

I'm curious to know what happened at the last pride parade in Toronto. The tnt marchers should go fully nude and not cover up the penis. A small covering up of the penis is, in many ways, a major victory for those against public nudity. I wonder if this parade is at an important juncture. It has to either establish full nudity as an acceptable practice or it will lose this element completely.

I feel that people should have the right to cover or display as much as they want. People's liberty to choose should not be limited. If Gay and/or Lesbian community members wish to have the same rights as allowed to straight people, it would then be logical and correct that we be held by the same rules to accomodate all orientations at any given time. I have no objections to full nudity in an enclosed event open only to adults who choose to enter. Public venues and parades where uninterested parties may be present are not appropriate places to be nude. At least in my part of the country, public nudity hinders all efforts at gay acceptance by the general public.
I am a gay man, I love and go to nude gatherings and beaches, but walking on a public street is inappropriate to me. We may have had and still standards that have confined us, but demanding our rights or freedom at the expense of offending someone else's sense of standards does not add up. A naked society would be wonderful, I wish for it, but in our neighborhoods and city streets is not where it is going to happen, not when we have other Americans who are offended. Why? Is a good question, but they are, and a society of respect involves compromise.

Media coverage of gay pride marches typically show the extremes of these marches, showing edited out nudity, "lewd" acts and drag queens. This does not accurately represent the majority of gay males and allows stereotypes such as overt sexuality and transvestism to continue to exist. Coverage of gays as normal people is getting less and less "cutting edge" for the media as of late.	More examples, say two each question, one of what can be considered an unattractive gay male and another that can be considered an attractive gay male.

I realize that sometimes marching naked in a public demonstration may cause an erection. Some can't help it due to a number of factors, like age, maturity, sexual experience, nudity experience, etc. I think this is okay. I do, however, draw the line at public sexual activity. I have never had any hang ups about nudity or sex, but I also recognize that I am in the minority. So, although I feel most of the things depicted in this poll or acceptable, I know that many in the religious right would condemn this sort of thing and use it as proof that gay people, especially men, are essentially perverts. I think it depends a great deal on where the march is being conducted and for what purpose.

I don't have any problem with public nudity but why not do it in events where the gay community isn't trying to show the world that we are people just like them - doctors, lawyers, candlestick makers. I am from Holland. I don't see what walking (almost)naked in the street tells about gay pride. I so ne difference between pride nudity and the nudity exibited during the sexual revolution of the 60s. I think many of those who object to Gay nudity have a problem with homosexuality not nudity. For some reason, folks seeem to have a problem with gay nudity. However, they should remember their own opportunities when they were a participant at a straight nudist colony or beach. I think that marching nude as a symbol of gay pride is a wonderful and positive thing to do. The penis is a very attractive part of the human anatomy. Those who feel that nudity at pride events undermine "the cause" probably don't know what the cause really is! It is about freedom and acceptance for all, of our sexuality and our bodies. Nudity for the sake of upsetting others is not acceptable to me even though I am a TNT member. Many people at pride did not want to see naked or the equivalent people and should not be forced against their will to do so. No wonder the police are hasseling us at even our own private parties. You don't rub people's noses in it and expect to escape unscathed. People are willing to let people to do their own thing as long as you don't force them against their will to have to acknowledge or experience it. It is our thing, then keep it OUR thing and confined to ourselvees and others who also enjoy it and we are sure will not be offended by it.

I Stopped attending the parade and the festivities after witnessing the nudity two years ago. I am embarrassed that we as gay people need to do this shock thing. "They Do Not represent me"!	What about just dressing respectful. I get naked in my bedroom, that is where it is appropriate.

The body is a sacred gift to be celebrated and enjoyed, not to be concealed and hidden--and no part of the body is more beautiful or sacred than the genitals. I would love to attend the Toronto Pride parade sometime. I was in SF for their parade again this year. Had a terrific time. There was a lot of nudity both in the parade and at the festival. I walked naked with the Fairies, strolled through the festival naked, and danced naked with some very nice men.
I find it wonderful, that there are some brave guys, who dare to show how beautiful the naked male body is.

Clothing/costumes such as you describe are more appropriate during events such as the Folsom Street Festival, where the focus of the festival seems to be sexuality (and some areas of Mardi Gras). Pride should allow us to feel good about ourselves, partners, and lives and at the same time, allow us to showcase our accomplishments and lives to those that believe they know no gay people, or don't want to know gay people. In short, I expect people to behave at Pride so that I would feel comfortable bringing my family to the event. In every celebration I have attended, I feel proud of all the people there, regardless of their attire. It is always nice to see people from all walks of life, thin, large, tall, professional, couples, singles, outrageous, conservative, ... But I must say, the people that are living the lives they want and succeeding regardless of the obstacles around them are the ones that set the examples, not those who are brave enough to wear the least clothing.
