My interview with the director of the original Los Angeles Naked Boys Singing!

'open quote'

he artist who conceived and directed Naked Boys Singing! is Robert Schrock, the Celebration Theater's Producing Artistic Director. I presume that this means he's the head creative honcho at Celebration, making sure that the shows there are good, gay, and worthwhile. Most of the shows are directed by others, but he has the ability to have his hand in them from time to time... -->

My interview with the director of the Chicago Naked Boys Singing!

'open quote'

he newest cast member went through the process that a lot of guys go through, thinking, yeah I can handle this, audiences and rehearsals all seem safe and welcoming... And then the curtain opens to an audience including your boyfriend and your coworkers! Once you get past that, you blast through all your inhibitions and it's an incredibly liberating experience. It's really great to see how the actors have grown and changed and the show has changed because of their openness and honesty. There's no place to hide! -->

My interviews with members of the Chicago cast of Naked Boys Singing! [Cast portraits]

'open quote'

Tim1 Tim Gallagher
We try to get [our staff] people to go along with the environment they're in and to get them comfortable. We had a straight actor in the cast for 7 months; he got along well and was quite humorous. Sometimes he acted too gay but that was OK -- [even though sometimes] I thought, "Honey, butch it up a little bit, OK?"

John2 John Cardone
My sister loved the show, lovvvved it! She thought what a celebration of sexuality and life -- she wanted to bring her kids to see it, to show them what's possible, all the options in life. My sister in law has seen it. My mom is coming to see it with my brother!

Marcos3 Marcos Ochoa
The first second after the the curtain opens there's nothing more you can do; you're committed for the full 90 minutes!
