Bound with the calendar is a cardboard backing with a cutout that lets you set up the calendar in an easel shape -- so you can stand it up on your desk. The printing on the front and back of each page permits you to set it up so that the pen is photo side faces you, while a boring calendar side faces your guests on the other side of your desk.
