We were skeptical, too, at first. But PayPal has partnered with many of the biggest names in banking and the Internet. It's been written up in leading magazines. [Details here]AND...
We have personally received money from PayPal, withdrawn it as a check, cashed the check... and so has everyone we know who has signed up for the system. It's for real! We've sent money, received money, sent out merchandise purchased through PayPal... everything... several times as of the end of November, 2000.
AND...
We've even received two direct deposits into our checking account from PayPal!
That was PayPal's very clever method of verifying ownership of our checking account. The two deposits were for several cents each, determined randomly. PayPal knew that we really had access to the account when we "verified" our account information by e-mailing those two amounts to the PayPal computer. We got to keep the money.Check out this page (written by us) and the PayPal site itself if you still have concerns.
PayPal has merged with X.com, a similar company. You were being redirected to the X.com site. "PayPal" is now the payment service run by X.com.
Sure! Just go directly to the PayPal site and sign up.
