As you can see, Joel is quite handsome.
More than anyone else I've photographed recently, however, Joel looks different in different photos I took of him. I don't understand this. The best explanation I can offer is that I took most of these photos from an unnatural position: in front of and quite a bit below his head. This camera angle tends to distort the proportions of the face and make Joel look weirder, and less handsome, than he really is.
His face combines boyishness and maturity in a very intriguing way. A good example:
In my opinion, this really looks like Joel. But this next one, less flattering, doesn't:
Here I hope you (and Joel) will forgive me as I make a semi-gross photographic point. This photo isn't as nice for several reasons. First, he's not smiling. Second, it's from below, and this distorts some of his features. Third, the flash unit (here's the gross part) illuminates right up his nostrils -- and who really wants to see there? I hope I'm not sounding too flip, but frankly, no one looks good up his nose (although you must admit, Joel looks better up there than most of us do!).
So with that caveat in mind, here's a bunch of other photos I took of Joel that afternoon. That the text underneath each photo is just my fantasy about what he's thinking; I haven't checked with him to see if it's an accurate interpretation.

Early in the session, he looks as if he's not quite sure what I'm up to. |

Have a look at Joel's many other
assets, and a frank discussion of
"Daddy/boy" relationships.
I want to read Joel's interview.
I want to subscribe!
