Dear Customers:
For nearly the past month, the company that services the membership portion of my site -- InterBBS -- has been having unbelievably bad technical problems. I am writing to let you know that these problems have now (29 July) been fixed for several days, and we expect no extraordinary service interruptions to continue.
Whew!
InterBBS has assured me that no customer will be overcharged for their memberships. Most have already had their memberships extended by a month to compensate.
The problems began when InterBBS started to move their servers to a new building called a "colocation facility" (a big building full of nothing but Internet computers). Almost from the start, the InterBBS hard drives (a RAID system) started to fail, one after another -- drives which had been rigorously tested just a couple of days earlier!
These problems (and there were more than one) were finally diagnosed and fixed. Details of the battle as of mid-July are available on the InterBBS website, www.interbbs.com.
If you want a refund of an appropriate portion of your membership fees (rather than the extension that members have automatically received), we'll be happy to credit your account. (It might take a few extra days to do this accurately and reliably; we hope you'll understand that we're taking that time to make sure that further mistakes will not compound the problem.) The address to write to for a refund is sales@interbbs.com. But we hope that most members will hang in there with us.
Finally, members are familiar with my own commitment to add about 50 new photos to the site approximately every week. It's going to take me a couple of weeks to catch up, but by the end of August it should be done. Note that, technically speaking, I could claim that I can skip a month's worth of photos, since memberships were extended for a month for free (heh heh). But I'm not going to claim that. By the end of August, the numbers of new photos will be what they would have been even without the interruption. So what does that mean? Not only are you not losing anything because of your membership extension, you're getting an extra month's worth of photos for free!
