The official route goes 7.5 miles through the city and the Golden Gate Park. Last year, my legs gave out at about the 6.5 mile mark, and I didn't like the idea of going all the way to the ocean, only to turn around and walk back 1.5 miles to Footstock. So I took the shortcut! I wasn't registered for the race, so I didn't care that no one would record my time or my finish.

At private locations along the race route
Some people recommended that you put clothes on whenever you weren't actually running. This was usually observed (even if people didn't agree that it was necessary) in order to keep a consistent policy and to keep friends and organizers from having heart attacks. But if you were absolutely, 100% certain that no one could see you, then of course it was OK. So here are some of the conspirators who stepped off the path and -- gasp! -- got naked for a photo or two to prove it to their friends and loved ones.   Faces in enlargements have been thoroughly fuzzed to protect the reputation of these recalcitrant truants.
